Algie Dee Peterson, 80, of Stronghurst, IL., went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington, IA.
Algie was born on May 16, 1945 in Burlington, IA, the son of Raymond and Elsie Polson Peterson. On December 9, 1983 he married Mary Northrup in Adrian, IL. She preceded him in death on March 29, 2017.
Algie was a 1963 graduate of Stronghurst High School. Early in life he held several jobs before moving to Phoenix, AZ. Since returning home in 1993, he was a general contractor in and around the Stronghurst area. He was also the minister of Absolute Life Ministries Church.
Algie enjoyed reading his bible, going to minister’s meetings, sharing the word of God with everyone he possible could, attending community suppers and fundraisers, eating out, and especially enjoyed attending family gatherings for birthdays, holidays, or just a visit.
Algie is survived by his son Michael Peterson of Oquawka, IL, his two daughters Molly (Andy) Kerr, of Sperry, IA, and Melissa (Bill Ewing) McIntire of Stronghurst, step-daughter Jackie (Kendall) Hetrick of Lomax, IL, grandchildren Sophie Peterson and Andrew Peterson both of Burlington, IA, step-grandchildren Brenton (Charlie) Kerr of St. Paul, MN., Allison (Luke) Simmons and Mallory Kerr both of Donnelson, IA, great-grandson Lucas Pence and his father, Travis of Stronghurst, step-great-granddaughter, Peyton Simmons and Baby Simmons coming in May, sister Shirley Reynolds of Marion, KY., numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and his children’s mother, Sharon Rady of Burlington, IA.
Besides his wife he was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, step-father James Newlan, sister Charlotte Dighton, brother-in-law Lee Reynolds, daughter-in-law Chris Peterson, granddaughter, Alicia Pence, niece Robin, great-nieces Rikki and Melissa, and several uncles, aunts, and cousins.
Visitation will be Friday, February 20 from 5-7 p.m. at Banks and Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst. Funeral service will be Saturday, February 21 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by burial at the Olena Cemetery in rural Stronghurst.
The family has established a memorial.
A special thank you goes out to all of the staff at the Hospice House for the wonderful care provided to Algie during his stay.
