The Monmouth College Fighting Scots men’s basketball team had been on top of the Midwest Conference standings for nearly the entire winter heading into the final week of the regular season last week. The Scots played their final regular season home game on Wednesday night against Lake Forest and then a road game at Illinois College in Jacksonville on Saturday. A pair of wins by the Scots and they would, at least, share the conference title for the second straight season. Two wins by Monmouth and at least one loss by Grinnell College and the Scots would win the regular season title outright and host the Midwest Conference Tournament this coming weekend, also for the second straight season.
Here’s Monmouth College Sports Information Director Nathan Baliva with the breakdown of what transpired on the basketball court last week.
The Fighting Scots men’s finished the year at (19-6) overall and (14-2) in the Midwest Conference. Monmouth will try for its 20th win of the season on Friday in the conference tournament semifinals. Last year’s squad went (20-6) after losing in the semifinals at home.
