The United Red Storm boys basketball team is red hot as the regular season comes to a close.

United took a different approach early this year, beefing up the schedule, highlighted by the switch to the Orion Thanksgiving Tournament, which featured several of the top teams in the area. The Red Storm felt that challenge early, starting the season just 2-7.

Since then, United has battled all year trying to climb back over the .500 mark, and they have done just that.

The Red Storm have now won five straight games, including wins over Ridgewood and Princeville in the fifth-place bracket of the LTC Tournament.

Head Coach Jason Lancaster says the 60-29 win over Princeville was the best game one of his United squads has ever played.

United will look to close out the regular season on a six-game win streak when they travel to Mercer County tomorrow night. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in Aledo.

The Red Storm will then make the 1.5-hour trip to Roanoke, east of Peoria, for regional play Monday night against the seventh-seeded Roanoke Benson Rockets. The Rockets sit at 14-15 overall with one game left on their schedule, but they have won eight of their last nine games and are peaking at the right time.

Monday’s regional matchup will tip-off at 6 p.m. at Roanoke High School. The winner advances to face either Brimfield or Knoxville in the next round at Knoxville.
