In a world where scams multiply almost daily, Security Savings Bank Vice President Dorothy Ricketts recommends giving to local organizations to avoid fraudulent transactions or giving to someone you may not know that asks for money at a gas station:
“In this day and age, we need to help through the channels that we know are in place, whether it is a church channel or it is a local community organization, such as the Jamieson Community Center or the United Way. There are channels. If you are not comfortable saying no to these people or you are not comfortable walking away without interacting, carry some of those business cards from those places with you and hand them out. That way, you are not snubbing them, you’re not turning them away, but you are not involving yourself or giving up your hard-earned money to someone that may be a scammer.”
Remaining educated of ongoing scams is key in not falling victim to someone that may be using scare tactics or working to gain your trust to potentially take from you in the future.
