Two in Custody Following Domestic Battery Incident

On Friday, January 30th, 2026, at approximately 9:04am, Deputies responded to a domestic battery in progress with possible weapons in Oquawka, IL. When Deputies arrived, they encountered a barricaded male subject in the residence. After negotiating with the male subject, he voluntarily exited the residence without incident and was taken into custody. A one-year child was taken into protective custody. The Department Children and Family Services (DCFS) was notified and later placed the child with family members.

Arrested:

Joseph A. Kimbrough, age 50 of Oquawka, IL

Charged with Domestic Battery and Obstructing/Resisting a Peace Officer

Gabriel N. Smith, age 23 of Oquawka, IL

Charged with Domestic Battery

The Henderson County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Warren County Sheriff’s Office, Illinois State Police, Hancock County Sheriff’s Office, Hancock/Henderson 911, Henderson County State’s Attorney’s Office, and DCFS.

Additional charges may be pending.

All subject are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
