Work will begin this week along South Lake Storey Road on the next phase of the Lake Storey multi-use recreational path.
Starting today, March 24, 2026, crews will begin tree removal along the project route, with work scheduled to be completed by April 1st. This initial phase clears the way for the next critical step: constructing earth embankments on the sections of the project directly adjacent to the lake and extending existing roadway culverts.
Lake levels will remain lowered during these initial project phases to allow for the earth embankment and extension of the existing culverts. This portion of the work should be completed by June 1st, at which time the lake levels will return to normal.
As the path takes shape, you will see a five-foot shoulder will separate the path from the edge of the roadway, which will be built up to create a flat area for the path. In curved sections of the road, guardrails will be installed between the path and the roadway to provide extra protection.
This expansion—funded by over $2.6 million in state grants—will be completed in two phases, with the work on the south side of Lake Storey scheduled for completion during 2026, and the path on the east side of Lake Storey, completing the full loop, scheduled for construction during 2027.
More details on the project scope can be found on the December 2025 project update article on the City’s website.
