Earlier this month, Sam Pietrowski of Special Olympics Warren County participated in the 2018 Special Olympics Summer Games in Seattle, Wash. The 2017 Monmouth-Roseville High School graduate competed in four events and was able to bring home some hardware.
“I got one gold in javelin. In my running long jump, I had a silver, which is 2nd place. In the 100-meter run, I got 4th place. And for my relay, I got 2nd place,” Pietrowski said.
It was an impressive showing from Pietrowski, who in Nov. 2017, fractured her tibia during a training session for the Summer Games. She was worried she wouldn’t be able to participate this summer, but ultimately, she came home with three medals.
The field of competitors came from all 50 states and six other U.S. territories which included Puerto Rico and District of Columbia. Along with competing, Pietrowski and her fellow athletes heard speeches from notable WWE wrestlers: Stephanie McMahon, Mark Henry, and Charlotte Flair.
Congratulations Sam on a great showing at the 2018 Special Olympics Summer Games!
