Mrs. Catherine “Jean” Egenlauf, 93, of Galesburg, Illinois, died at 12:50 p.m. Friday, May 24, 2019 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg.

She was born April 4, 1926, in McKeesport, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Eugene and Catherine (McCaffrey) Marley.  She married George H. Egenlauf on August 23, 1948, in McKeesport.  He preceded her in death May 12, 1986.

She is survived by her son, William (and Brenda) Egenlauf of Galesburg; a daughter, Christine (and Al Roberts) Egenlauf of Marin City, California; and three grandchildren, Jeanette, Lynnette, and Jonathon Egenlauf.  She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Frank Marley and Eugene Marley; and two sisters, Mary Chadwell and Alice McCallister.

Jean graduated from St. Peter’s High School in McKeesport in 1944.  She received her nursing degree from McKeesport Hospital School of Nursing in 1947.  Jean moved to Galesburg in 1956 and worked as a Registered Nurse at OSF in Peoria for five years and Galesburg Cottage Hospital for twelve years.  She also worked for St. Mary’s Living Center for two years, Galesburg Research Hospital for two years, and was an office nurse for Dr. Milo Reed for two years.

Jean was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Galesburg.  She was a member of the Ladies of Mary and the American Legion Auxiliary Post #285.  Jean loved to read mystery novels and biographies and watching the “Thin Man” movies.  She loved shopping and going to the boat.

Funeral Mass is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, June 1, 2019 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.  Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, Galesburg.  Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 31, 2019 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel.  Memorial contributions may be made to Galesburg Rescue Mission or Knox County Nursing Home.  Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
