Congresswoman Bustos Tours Local Post Offices in Peoria and Abingdon

Share

Congresswoman Cheri Bustos (IL-17) toured the United States Postal Service (USPS) Sorting and Distribution Facility in Peoria and the Post Office in Abingdon to learn more about USPS processes firsthand. On the visits, Congresswoman Bustos had the opportunity to speak with USPS employees and view their operations in action after the Postmaster General implemented changes to USPS procedure and equipment.

“The United States Postal Service is an American institution enshrined in our Constitution that always delivers no matter where you live,” Congresswoman Bustos said. “The Postmaster General’s attacks on the institution jeopardize lives, livelihoods and our democracy as the Postal Service distributes life-saving medication to veterans, supports small businesses and allows voters to safely cast their ballot, among other vital services. I thank the Postal Service employees in Peoria and Abingdon today for showing me how they operate directly, and I will continue to work to protect this critical service that so many Illinoisans rely on.”

Recently, Congresswoman Bustos helped pass the Delivering for America Act to help save the USPS and hold the Administration accountable for recent operational changes to the USPS, which were implemented without consulting Congress and have created dramatic increases in delayed and undelivered mail for Americans.

The Delivering for America Act would prohibit USPS from implementing any changes to operations or level of service it had in place on January 1, 2020 and provide $25 billion in critical funding to support USPS.
