The Safety, Accountability, Fairness and Equity-Today Act, better known as the SAFE-T Act, is an Illinois statute enacted in 2021 setting reforms to the criminal justice system, affecting policing, pretrial detention, bail, sentencing, and corrections, with the bail provision being the most recognizable. Currently the state of Illinois has cash bail in place set forth by the Illinois Constitution.
