The Monmouth-Roseville Titans boys soccer team hosted the Quincy Notre Dame Raiders at Patee Fields in Monmouth on Wednesday afternoon for the class 1A Monmouth-Roseville regional title. Fresh off a 7-1 victory over Macomb in the regional semifinals, the Titans took on the defending class 1A state champion Raiders. Unfortunately for the Titans, it would Quincy Notre Dame advancing on to sectional play, as Monmouth-Roseville fell 5-2 to the Raiders in a rainy contest from Patee Fields. After an early back and forth of empty shots from both teams, QND opened the scoring in the 36th minute of the game with a goal right before the half from sophomore Sullivan Walker, putting the Raiders up 1-0 at the break. The second half would be when QND got their rhythm offensively, with scores from Rylan Fischer in the 42nd and 59th minute, as well as scores from senior Leo Cann in the 56th and 63rd minute to reach their 5-goal total.
A score from Bawi (BOY) Thang (TUNG) on a penalty kick in the 61st minute and a goal on a deep shot from Beto (BEH-toe) Jurado (her-AH-doe) in the waning minutes of the match would be the only scores from Monmouth-Roseville. The Titans end their season with an impressive 17-5-1 record, and an appearance in the regional championship game for their 3rd straight season. Quincy Notre Dame will now head on to the Chillicothe Sectional Tournament, taking on 21-2-2 Mendota this Saturday. The Titans now shift their focus to the offseason, as they will look to replace 3 of their 4 leading goal scorers next season, as Ozzy Carmona (34 goals), Bawi Thang (11 goals), and Beto Jurado (9 goals) graduate from the program this May.
