MONMOUTH, Ill. – Monmouth’s men’s cross country team will not be underestimated by the Midwest Conference coaches who today predicted the Scots to be in the thick of the race for the league championship.
A year after the seventh-seeded Scots surprised everyone but their coach with a second place finish at the MWC Championships, the Midwest Conference Coaches’ Poll seeded Monmouth third in the 10-team field. Grinnell and Cornell split the 10 first place votes with the Pioneers taking the top billing by one point 77-76. Monmouth placed third with 58 points, two ahead of Lake Forest and Lawrence which tied for fourth. St. Norbert (42), Beloit (34), Ripon (21), Knox (20) and Illinois College (10) rounded out the bottom half of field.
