Warren County Sheriff’s Office Weighing Options in Selecting Body Cameras

Share

Starting January 1, 2025, all law enforcement personnel will be mandated to wear body cameras. The Warren County Sheriff’s Office is currently in the process of selecting a company that offers the best type of camera and storage deal to best suit the department, informs Warren County Board Chairman Mike Pearson:

“Several different companies offer body cameras. This has been coming down the pipe for quite a few years, what is the best kind, the best features, the one you make the least mistakes on, and really the huge cost and concern in the end is not the matter of the camera itself, but the storage of all the data. If you have 12 officers that have to have cameras, if you work 40 hours a week, how many hours a week are you having to store video? A lot of it right now if forever. The ongoing cost right now is the big question. Essentially just the cameras themselves I have heard numbers thrown out in the $150,000 to $180,000 range.”

On top of the cost of the cameras themselves, a yearly fee to store data would then have to be paid.
