During the month of June, the Monmouth Police Department conducted compliance checks with businesses in the City of Monmouth that sell cigarettes or vaping products. According to Police Chief Joe Switzer, two ordinance violations were issued:
“We have an 18 year old that we call an agent and send them into the various establishments and try to purchase cigarettes or vaping products. We went to twelve different businesses, ten of them passed with flying colors. There were two of them that didn’t and they were issued an ordinance violation for that, but I am sure they will get it corrected for the next time. We do conduct those from time to time. We do the same thing with alcohol purchases,” informs Chief Switzer.
“For the most part, here in town everywhere is really good at checking ID’s with people they think that are not 21. They are doing what they are suppose to do and that is good. Under 21 you cannot possess or consume alcohol, cigarettes, or vaping products,” Chief Switzer adds.
Additionally, Chief Switzer also reports for the month of June, the Monmouth Police Department made 34 arrests, issued 49 citations, 4,190 calls came into the dispatch center, 1,455 calls were handled by the police department, officers handled 12 accidents, and worked 18 grant hours.
