The Abingdon-Avon Tornadoes saw their football season come to an end Saturday afternoon in the opening round of the IHSA Class 1A playoffs.
A-Town fell 36-34 on the road against Fisher, finishing the year at 8-3 overall. The eight wins marked the program’s highest win total since going 10-2 in 2021, which was also the last time the Tornadoes reached the postseason. A-Town also earned a share of the Lincoln Land South Division title.
After four straight losing seasons, Head Coach Rick Quinn says he is proud of what this group was able to accomplish.
“I was just super happy with the way these guys every Friday night competed and played for one another and had that next-play mentality and just fought for 48 minutes. I told them after the game that I’m grateful, and that it brought a little bit of joy back to coaching for me because it’s been a rough four years, and I was very proud of them for sticking together and working hard and making it worthwhile for themselves and for this program.”
A-Town will graduate seven seniors from this year’s team, a group Quinn says leaves the program in a better spot than when they arrived.
