Mowen Gives Details on Senior Nutrition Program

Director of the Jamieson Center, Nancy Mowen, broke down the Senior Nutrition Program they provide for local seniors. Lunch is provided for anyone 60 years or older – Monday through Friday – at three different locations in Monmouth, Roseville, and Kirkwood. Tuesday through Friday, lunch is provided at Faith Bible Church in Oquawka. And on Mondays, there is lunch served in Stronghurst as well. Mowen says the program has fed around 350 people in the last year.
“We can serve more, so we would encourage people that are 60 or older who would like to have a well-balanced meal – if they are able to get out and about – to come join us at one of the congregate sites,” Mowen said.
Mowen asks that participants reserve their spot the day before they come to eat. Lunch begins at 11:30 at each location on the assigned days. The program is partially funded by the Western Illinois Area Agency on Aging. The Jamieson Center is required to do a 15 percent cash match on that funding, which is covered by the United Way. Mowen wanted to stress that there is just one requirement for aspiring participants.
“There are not income eligibility requirements for this program. The only eligibility is simply being 60 or older,” she said.
