November is Alzheimer’s Awareness Month. To help celebrate the lives of those who battle Alzheimer’s Disease and remember those who have passed, Galesburg Cottage Hospital will be hosting the Ceremony of Light for Alzheimer’s Disease on Wednesday, Nov. 15th. Eileen Inness, Marketing Director at Cottage Hospital, explains:

“The Ceremony of Light begins at 4 o’clock with the lighting of the luminaries, and then at 4:30, we’ll have the dedication and opening ceremony where we will read all the messages that have been sent in through the sale of the luminaries which are $10. You can get those either on your website or at cottagehospital.com,” she said.

This will be the inaugural edition of the event, which was the brainchild of Dr. Denise Dechow, Medical Director of the Cottage Older Adult Behavioral Health Unit. Dechow realizes that Alzheimer’s presents various challenges and stresses to families.

“I think that we see families struggle. There’s a lot of grief during the process, and it’s a very difficult time. This might be a way to help offer some positive support to the families and let them know that they have a team to depend on when they’re going through this struggle,” Dechow said.

The Ceremony will begin at 4 p.m. in the visitors parking lot across from Cottage Hospital. Call 345-4563 with any questions about the event.
