Bustos, Durbin and Duckworth Announce $2,214,738 Grant for Quad City International Airport

WASHINGTON – Today, Congresswoman Cheri Bustos and Senators Dick Durbin and Tammy Duckworth announced that the Quad City International Airport received $2,214,738 in grant funding from the Department of Transportation. These funds will be used to reconstruct lighting systems on both Runway 13/31 as well as six Taxiways to enhance safe airfield operations during low visibility conditions.

Earlier this month, Congresswoman Bustos joined Senators Durbin and Duckworth in announcing funding to expand the service road at the Quad City International Airport. Similarly, last September, the three secured funding that went towards rehabilitating lighting systems for Runway 9/27 and Taxiway H. In order to ensure our state’s infrastructure is up to date and local businesses remain competitive in the regional economy, Congresswoman Bustos and Senators Durbin and Duckworth have continually supported investment in local airports across central and northwestern Illinois.

“These continued investments in the Quad City International Airport are fundamental to supporting our local economy. By making these investments in our airport, we’re ensuring a brighter economic future for our regional economy,” said Bustos. “Senators Durbin and Duckworth have been tremendous partners and I thank them for their ongoing efforts to make the Quad-Cities a great place to live, work and raise a family.”

“This is good news for travelers flying in and out of the Quad Cities. Today’s funding will help improve service, safety, and efficiency at Quad City International Airport — which benefits the entire region,” said Durbin. “I am proud to work alongside Representative Bustos and Senator Duckworth to bring this important investment to our state and will continue working to strengthen our infrastructure.”

“This funding will help the Quad City International Airport make necessary improvements and continue to be an economic engine for the region,” said Duckworth. “I’m proud to work alongside Senator Durbin and Congresswoman Bustos to help secure federal resources for infrastructure investments in the Quad Cities and throughout Illinois.”
