Sophomore guard Danayzia (Duh-nay-zhuh) Stuckey scored all of her game-high 18 points in the second half, helping the Carl Sandburg College women’s basketball team rally for a 69-55 Arrowhead Conference victory over Illinois Valley on Thursday at John M. Lewis Gymnasium. Sandburg (8-11, 2-0) trailed by as much as seven in the first half and 27-25 at halftime before taking the lead for good on a Kennedy Jackson (Peoria, Ill./Limestone) layup for a 38-36 advantage late in the third quarter. IVCC (10-8, 2-1) pulled within 53-52 midway through the fourth before the Chargers used a 10-0 run to pull away. Stuckey had a pair of 3-pointers in the stretch, and Yvonne Mixon (Galesburg, Ill./Galesburg) capped it with a layup. Sandburg held the Eagles to just three points in the final five minutes. Stuckey hit three fourth-quarter 3s and tied IVCC’s Gena Fassino for game-high honors with 18 points. Stuckey went 4 of 7 from beyond the arc and helped close the game out at the line, finishing 6 of 8 from the stripe. Jackson scored 13 points and Sophomore guard Katie Droste, from West Central High School, had six of the Chargers’ 17 steals and a team-leading five assists. Sandburg hits the road for a pair of conference games next week, beginning at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Sauk Valley.

Deandrey Robinson (Peoria, Ill./Peoria) led the Carl Sandburg College men’s basketball team in scoring and rebounding, and the Chargers held off a furious late rally by Illinois Valley for an 88-84 Arrowhead Conference victory in last night’s second game. Sandburg (13-6, 1-1) had a 22-point first-half lead and 51-34 halftime advantage before the Eagles (8-11, 1-2) rallied to within 55-47 barely five minutes into the second half. Robinson powered the Chargers with game highs of 27 points and 12 rebounds, giving him his 12th double-double of the season. The sophomore hit 10 of 15 shots from the floor and went 6 of 8 at the free-throw line. Scott Gowan scored 19 points and had a team-best four assists for CSC and former Macomb Bomber Carter Fayhee finished with 10 points and four boards. Sandburg hits the road for a pair of conference games next week, beginning at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Sauk Valley.
