Social Security scams have been on the rise lately among the elderly. Carol McCrery, Executive Director at Strom Center, offers insight on how to ensure your safety against the scammers:
“It is becoming so common to have people scammed. The latest one is the Social Security scam. People are calling saying they are from Social Security wanting bank information. They sound extremely official. Do not fall for them. If you are going to do anything, make sure it is through the mail. It has to be an official letter. Please feel free to bring it in. We see all of these and can see if it is real. Some of them are really tricky, that we will ask our higher ups to make sure they are legit,” states McCrery.
To learn more on how to protect yourself from scams, feel free to attend the Warren County Triad meetings held at Strom Center every second Thursday of the month at 1pm.
Strom Center will be hosting their third parking lot sale on Saturday April 13th from 10am until 2pm. Executive Director Carol McCrery, has more details:
“Lots of household items. Some electrical, furniture, exercise equipment, sports equipment, you name it. What is different this year than in prior years is we are not going to have clothing out on the main parking lot. We will continue that day to have clothing are there will be sales going on upstairs in the thrift shop. So we will not be bringing the clothing down, as it is an overwhelming task. It will just be all non-clothing items in the parking lot,” McCrery shares.
Volunteers are needed to help with the event. Proceeds will benefit the Strom Center Emergency Funds.
In the instance of rain, the event will be moved to Saturday May 11th.
