Street Improvement Bids for Monmouth are Above Expected Allotment: Jackson

Share

Two bids submitted by local construction companies for street improvement in Monmouth exceeded City estimates, according to Public Works Director Andy Jackson.

The lowest bid, submitted by Brandt Construction in Milan, was 35 per cent over the budget allotment of $750,000 appropriated by the City. The second bid was by Gunther Construction of Galesburg and was over $1.2 million.

Jackson tells us what the next steps for the City are.

“What we’re going to have to do, unfortunately, is go back and take another look at our list of planned work and the engineer is preparing us a spreadsheet to identify the costs per area that we were going to do. In other words, if we were going to do this block, what was the block going to cost now that we have the bids in, and from there we can pare down the project to keep it as close to the $750,000 as we can.”

The project calls for the resurfacing of 2.2 miles of roads and improvements required to meet the standards of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
