Mrs. Beverly Jean Stoerzbach, 94, of Galesburg, died at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, 2019, at Hawthorne Inn in Galesburg.


Bev was born Mar. 28, 1925, in Grand Forks County, North Dakota, the third of four daughters born to Henry Clay Lee and Frances (Phelps) Lee. She attended the University of Colorado at Boulder and later married Robert Stoerzbach on Aug. 9, 1946, in Minocqua, Wis. They lived most of their married life in Galesburg. He preceded her in death on Oct. 27, 2013. Bev and Bob were longtime members of First Presbyterian Church in Galesburg.

She was a member of PEO Chapter W, Hawthorne Club, and the Pi Beta Phi Alumnae Club. She was a past volunteer with FISH Food Pantry, Meals on Wheels, and Prairieland Hospice, as well as a supporter of the Knox-Galesburg Symphony, Orpheum Theatre, and Galesburg Civic Arts Center.

Bev was an avid bridge player, reader and enjoyed traveling.  In the past, her hobbies were photography, bike riding, and dining with family and friends.  She and Bob loved to play golf together.  A daily pleasure was an afternoon coffee and chocolate break.  She participated in a yoga group until the week before her passing.

Bev is survived by two sons and a daughter, Thomas (and Diana) Stoerzbach of Spring, Texas, and children Dayla (and Dimitri) Dementjew and Amanda (and Jared) Smith; Janet Tichenor of Allen, Texas, and children Justin (and Meaghan) Tichenor and Ellen Tichenor; Daniel (and Cynthia) Stoerzbach of Galesburg and children Ashley (and Jeff) Strobach, Audrey (and Matt) Scherrer, Kathryn Stoerzbach, and Jaclyn Stoerzbach.

Her nine great-grandchildren are Jack, Louis, and Adelaide Strobach; Stanley and Rod Sherrer; Cayson and Dylann Tichenor; Benjamin Smith; and Norah Dementjew. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters Dorothy Kennedy, Betty Eyre, and Nancy Schmitt.

A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, 2019, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Home in Galesburg. Jordan Knight, Chaplain of Hospice Compassus, will officiate. A lunch reception will follow from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m. at Hinchliff-Pearson-West. Private burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery beside her husband.
