Congresswoman Cheri Bustos (IL-17) – a member of the powerful House Appropriations Committee – announced a $2,554,997 federal grant from the Department of Health and Human Services for West Central Community Services, Inc.’s Head Start and Early Head Start programs. Head Start promotes school readiness for young children from birth to age five by providing programming to enhance cognitive, social and emotional development.

“Head Start programs set our children up for success and are key to a strong early childhood education,” Congresswoman Bustos said. “I’m pleased to announce these federal funds for West Central Community Services in Knox, Warren and Henderson Counties and I’ll continue to fight for a lifetime of opportunity for all of our children.”

“I thank Congresswoman Bustos for being an advocate for early childhood education and a leader on this issue,” said Mary Reed, Executive Director of West Central Community Services, Inc. “Head Start programs provide essential services to members of our community and these federal dollars will help us prepare children for the future.”

Congresswoman Bustos is a member of the Appropriations Subcommittee that oversees the Department of Health and Human Services.
