City of Monmouth to Revise Policy on Gaming Machines

Share

The City of Monmouth are revising their policy on video gaming in businesses who hold liquor licenses after the State of Illinois expanded regulations on video gaming machines.

The new regualtions have increased the number of machines in a business from five to six. As a home rule city, Monmouth can restrict the number of gaming machines, or prohibit them, in a given business.

The City will also be researching the possibility of enforcing fees to businesses who operate the machines. The fees ensure there is no underage gaming on these machines.

City Administrator Lew Steinbrecher outlines how the ordinance will be established:

“Will be doing some research on that in terms of what the costs are to the City to monitor, administer and enforce the laws pertaining to these. I expect that to come to Council with some sort of recommended policy for council’s continued consideration.”

The City of Monmouth generates approximately 60,000 dollars on video gaming machines per year.
