Another vacant building in Galesburg will soon be seeing new life. The former Aldi building at the corner of Main St and Henderson has been purchased by Nature’s Treatment of Illinois (NTI) with the intent of developing a cannabis dispensary. In addition, the building will be subdivided into several smaller retail units for lease, one of which will house a coffee shop. NTI currently operates a medical cannabis dispensary in Milan, IL. They plan to be open for business on January 1st, 2020.
Adult-use cannabis was legalized in Illinois during the 2019 legislative session with the new law going into effect on January 1st, 2020. The legal cannabis market in Illinois is expected to be worth over $2 billion and will create thousands of jobs statewide in cultivation, transportation, processing and retail sales.
At the city council meeting on September 3rd, the Galesburg City Council will be asked to approve an updated zoning ordinance to allow for adult-use cannabis sales. The NTI project is expected to create over 25 new jobs and will generate significant tax revenue for the City of Galesburg in the coming years.
“Nature’s Treatment of Illinois is proud to join the Galesburg community. We love the location and look forward to being a strong community partner in Galesburg. Our #1 goal is to create an operation that meets and exceeds state regulations, while serving the people of the community.” Trent Jacquin, Nature’s Treatment of Illinois
