Local High School and Junior High Sports Update for Sept. 17, 2019

Volleyball

The A-Town Tornadoes hosted the United Red Storm in a non-conference match. The Storm get a straight set, 25-10, 25-18 victory to improve to (8-1) overall on the season. The Tornades, who fall to (2-3) for year, was led by Payton Florine’s six kills and two service aces and Logan Hensley’s seven assists. United got ten kills from Josie Bentz, nine assists from Riley Tyrrell and eight digs from Maddy Diaz.

Macomb had not trouble at all with West Hancock, getting a dominating 25-7, 25-2 win. Avery Rexroat served five aces and handed out 13 assists. Tatumn Lantz smashed seven kills. Maggie Vallillo served four aces and had five digs. Macomb is now (13-2).

Ridgewood beat ROWVA 25-23,25-18. The winning Spartans got nine kills from Hallica Warren-Anderson and nine assists from Brecken Anderson. With the win, Ridgewood picked up their 4th win against 11 losses. ROWVA falls to (1-8).

It was Williamsfield over North Fulton in three sets. Molly Warner totaled 12 kills and Gionna Ott dished out 21 assists. Williamsfield is (3-9).

Golf

Monmouth-Roseville hosted Liberty and Macomb at Gibson Woods in Monmouth. The Titans beat Liberty 186-256 but fell to a very talented Bomber boys team 149-186. Leading the way for Monmouth-Roseville was Reese Kane with a 42. Tyler Sells shot a 44 as well for the Titans. Macomb was led by meet medalist Conner Hamm’s 35. All four Macomb scorers were under 40.

The Macomb Bomber girls golf team was also victorious over Pittsfield and QND at Gold Hills Golf Club in Colchester. The Bombers shot a team total of 164, led by Laine Torrance with a 38.

The Galesburg Silver Streak boys golf team lost to Rock Island 176-195 at Highland Springs Golf Course. The Streaks’ Jason Runbom was the meet medalist with a score of 40.

Soccer

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan boys soccer team welcomed Beardstown to Pattee Field in Monmouth yesterday afternoon. Both teams posted a late-half goal as the host Monmouth-Roseville Titans and the Beardstown Tigers battled to a 1-1 tie. The Titans broke through with a little over a minute remaining in the first half when Tony Aguilar-Perez took a free kick from his own end. The soaring blast sailed over Tiger goal keeper’s gloves and bounced into the goal for a 1-0 lead. M-R goalie Dylan Corrales made three saves in the second half, but he could not get to the Tigers’ final shot of the game with 4:33 to play, as Yevin Ortiz beat him to a bouncing ball in the box and flicked it up and over Corrales into the goal.

Leighton Holthaus scored the lone goal for Macomb in a 1-0 win over Kewanee.

Junior High

The United Red Storm junior high 7th and 8th grade girls basketball teams began their season with a pair of losses at home vs. Rockridge. The 7th grade lost 29-18, while the 8th grade fell 33-24.

Knoxville Junior High seventh-grader Addison Orr tied for 20th place in the IESA Girls’ Golf state tournament at Kellogg Golf Course in Peoria over the weekend. The Blue Bullet seventh-grader shot a 50 on the front nine and a 47 on the back nine to finish with a score of 97 for a tie in the 20th position.
