Mr. George L. Leafgreen, 90, of Galesburg, Illinois passed away peacefully at 11:40 pm Tuesday, September 17, 2019 at Aperion Care North.

George was born December 10, 1928 in Galesburg the son of William and Estella (Swanson) Leafgreen. He married Anna Louise Larson on September 14, 1948 in Galesburg. After 62 years of marriage, she preceded him in death on August 29, 2011.

He is survived by his children, Mark L. Leafgreen of Davenport, Iowa and Darcy L. (Roger) Terpening of Rio, Illinois; one sister, Elizabeth (Don) Robinson of Woodhull, Illinois; his four grandchildren, Scott (Beth) Terpening, Mark (Anna) Terpening, Sara (Jeff) Boyer and Mary (Trent) Ash and four great grandchildren, Matthew and Alex Boyer and Masy and Megan Brandmeyer. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Laurie Leafgreen, his two brothers, Richard and Harvey Leafgreen and his three sisters, Helen Peterson, Pauline Sheridan and Marian Link.

George was a farmer his entire life. He was extremely active in Knox County 4-H with his children. Although always proud of their accomplishments, the highlight of two summer 4-H shows will always stand out. Those were the summers they earned Reserve Grand Champion Steer and Grand Champion Steer.  George was a volunteer firefighter for the Rio Fire Department, holding terms of assistant chief and secretary. He was a member of the former Knox County Disaster Unit and a member of the Rio Masonic Lodge. He graduated from Alpha High School in 1947. He was a former member of the Rio Presbyterian Church, where he served as a chairman for the board of trustees and is currently a member of First Lutheran Church.

Funeral Services are scheduled for 10:00 am Monday, September 23, 2019 at First Lutheran Church. Rev. Pamela Marolla and Rev. Tim Anderson will officiate. Visitation will be 2:00-4:00 pm Sunday, September 22, 2019 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the First Lutheran Church or to the charity of the donor’s choice. Online condolence may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
