Volleyball
The Monmouth-Roseville Titan volleyball season came to an end last night at the hands of Deer Creek-Mackinaw. The Titans would win first set 25-23, but the Class 2A touranament host Lady Chiefs would win the final two sets 25-20, 25-18. Monmouth-Roseville ends their season with a record of (25-12). Knoxville fell to IVC in the first semi-final in Mackinaw. The Blue Bullets lost in straight sets, to end their season with an overall record of (14-17-1).
Also in Class 2A last night, the Orion Chargers’ fantastic season continues. The Chargers defeated Kewanee 25-12, 25-10 in the Princeton regional semi-finals. The (34-1) Chargers will take on the hosts, Princeton, tomorrow night for the regional title plaque. Princeton beat Mercer County 25-18, 25-22 in the second semi-final last night.
The Macomb Bombers will play for a regional title in the Rushville-Industry regional championship tomorrow night. The Bombers are now (29-7) after dispatching Beardstown 25-4, 25-15 in a match that lasted all of 17 minutes. Avery Rexroat handed out 27 assists, while Kennedy Adair had 10 kills and Maggie Vallillo totaled 16 digs, all for Macomb. The Bombers will play their old conference rivals, the Illini West Chargers tomorrow night in a highly anticipated regional championship match. The Chargers knocked off Rushville/Industry in three sets to improve to (30-6).
In Class 1A regional action last night, Elmwood and Brimfield were victorious in the Williamsfield regional. Elmwood beat ROWVA 25-11, 25-15 and it was Brimfield over Galva 25-14, 25-10. Those two teams will play each other tonight in the second semi-final at 6:30. United, who will play their first regional match and bring in a (30-5) overall record, will battle their Lincoln Trail Conference foes, the Ridgewood Spartans in the first semi-final in Williamsfield tonight at 5:30.
The West Central Heat moved on to the semi-finals of the Bushnell-Prairie City 1A regional in Bushnell with a 25-14, 25-15. The Heat were led by Megan Schaley’s eight kills and Sadie Lenz led in assists with 17. Mady Reed hustled her way to 11 digs for the (22-13-1) Heat. West Central will take on West Prairie tonight at 6:30 at Williamsfield High School. West Prairie dominaated the host Spartans 25-4, 25-4.
In a Class 3A regional semi-final in Rock Island last night, Galesburg was beaten by Western Big Six champion Sterling 25-9, 25-11. Galesburg ends the season with a record of (16-20). Sterling gets their 30th win against just six losses.
Junior High
In junior high girls basketball last night, both ICS 7th and 8th grade girls basketball teams will play for a Sand Valley Conference championship after each team got wins in semi-final. The 7th grade Trojans defeated Bushnell-Prairie City 29-16. Katie Flynn led ICS with 11 points. The ICS 8th grade got a 31-12 win over LaHarpe/Dallas City. Reece Bertelsen led all scorers for ICS with 13 points. The 8th grade will play West Central, who got a win over North Fulton 33-26 last night. Shelby Bowman and Addie Seitz led West Central with 15 points apiece. The ICS 7th grade will play North Fulton in the title game. North Fulton beat West Central in the 7th grade semis. Both championship games will be played in Valley tomorrow night, with the 7th grade title game at 6:00 and the 8th grade at 7:15.
