Mr. William G. Conroy, III, 78, of Galesburg, Illinois died 7:55 a.m. Thursday, October 31, 2019 at Marigold Health Care Center, Galesburg. 

He was born August 26, 1941 in Lincoln, Nebraska to William G. and Rozella (Williams) Coroy, II.  He married Irene Serven in 1960.  He later married Peggy Fike in 1966.  He then was with his “Soul Mate”, Jody Banks in 1985 until her passing in 2012. 

Surviving are three daughters, Meia R. Conroy of Galesburg, Emily I. (and Ricky) Marsh of Galesburg and Faye (and Irish) Gardner of Hollywood, Florida, a sister, Cathy Conroy Campbell (and Dennis McGregor) of West Point, Iowa, seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and one on the way.  He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Carol Sobotta and a nephew, Danny Sabotta.

William graduated from Galesburg High School in 1959 which was the last graduating class from the old high school. He was on the reunion planning committee for his class.  He also attended Carl Sandburg College in Galesburg.  He served in the US Army as a radar repairman and was in Vietnam for one year.  He was then stationed in Fort Sill, Oklahoma.  William worked for Galesburg Music, Greg’s Tire and Auto Service, and Dick Blick for the last 13 years.  He was a Ham Radio Operator and loved working with computers and electronics.  He was a member of Knox County Amateur Radio Club.  He also enjoyed watching professional wrestling and the television show, “Gold Rush”. . 

Cremation will be accorded.  A memorial service will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 5, 2019 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Service Galesburg Chapel with military rites by the VFW/American Legion Honor Guard.  Pastor Sherman Jones will officiate.  A private committal service will be at a later date.  Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com
