CSC Men Go to 4-0 After Holding Fighting Scots JV to 41 Points

Monmouth, IL – The Carl Sandburg College men’s basketball team ran its record to 4-0 to begin the season with a 65-41 victory at Monmouth JV on Wednesday evening.

The Chargers held the Fighting Scots to just 14 first-half points while taking a 21-point lead into the locker room. Sandburg leads NJCAA Division II in points allowed per game this season, having outscored opponents by an average of 82.5-55.

Sophomore guard Scott Gowan (Rockford, Ill./Rockford East) scored a team-best 13 points for Sandburg on 5-of-9 shooting, including hitting on 3 of his 4 3-point attempts. Gowan also tied for the team lead with four rebounds and added three assists.

Freshman Jean Luc Wilson (East Moline, Ill./United Township) came off the bench to hit 3 of 5 3s and finish with 12 points. Wilson also matched Carter Fayhee (Macomb, Ill./Macomb) with a team-best three steals.

Fayhee scored seven, handed out four assists and collected three steals.

The Chargers shot 48 percent from the field (27 of 56) and hit 8 of 19 from beyond the arc.

UP NEXT
The Chargers host Madison at 3 p.m. Saturday in the back end of a men’s-women’s doubleheader. The Sandburg women’s team faces the Wolfpack at 1 p.m.
