Jane Hise, 77, of Knoxville, died at 6:54 a.m. Thursday, November 7, 2019 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg.

Jane was born May 2, 1942, in Westfield, the daughter of Austin and Martha (Ledbetter) Parker.  She married Gerald David Hise on August 19, 1961, in Charleston. Jane is survived by her husband of 58 years, Jerry of Knoxville; three sons, Dru Hise of Springfield, Patrick (Jodi) Hise and Shannon (Carolyn) Hise both of Knoxville; along with four grandchildren, Karsen Hise of Houston, TX, Grant, Jason, and David Hise all of Knoxville, Il.  Jane is also survived by two sisters, Vera Jezek of Chillicothe and Linda (Larry) Dhamers of Lombard, Il. Along with her parents, Jane was preceded in death by three brothers, Wayne, David, and Brad Parker; and one sister, Betty Fox.

Jane graduated with a BA in Education from Knox College, with progress in a master’s degree from Western Illinois University.  She taught 1st grade at Mable Woolsey School in Knoxville for 28 years, retiring in 2002.  After retirement, Jane returned to the classroom as a substitute teacher working at Costa Catholic Academy, Williamsfield, and Knoxville School Districts. Jane was a longtime member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church and the Altar and Rosary Society.  She enjoyed being at her home and tending to her gardens. Jane also was an avid shopper. She was a member of IEA and NEA, Knoxville PEO, Knoxville Athletic Booster Club, and the PTA. Most of all, Jane loved to attend her grandchildren’s school and sporting events.  

Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, November 11, 2019, at Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg.  Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, November 12, 2019, at Corpus Christi Catholic Church. Cremation rites will be accorded following services.  Rev. Father William T. Miller will officiate. Memorials may be made in Jane’s memory to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or the Knoxville Athletic Booster Club.  Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.watsonthomas.com.
