Local High School and Junior High Sports Update for Nov. 21, 2019

Basketball

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan girls basketball team played their second pool play game of the Ridgewood Thanksgiving Tournament in Woodhull last night. The Titans took on the United Township junior varsity team and wasted no time putting this one to bed. Monmouth-Roseville led 29-2 after the first quarter and 48-8 at the half. The Titans would shutout the Panther JV in the second half to win 64-8. Carly Gillen led three Monmouth-Roseville girls in double figures with 21 points. Ryley Huston scored 16 and Lily Cundiff had 12. The Titans are (2-0) in pool play and will play Bushnell-Prairie City tonight at 6:00 in the junior high gym at Alwood High School. BPC is (3-0) after edging out Mercer County 40-39. In Pool B, Knoxville is (2-0) after beating Galva 57-23. Cassidy Grady had 11 points and Breena Shreeves had 10 to lead the winning Blue Bullets. Knoxville takes on Orion also at 6:00 tonight in the high school gym. The other final last night saw Rockridge move to (2-1) in Pool B with a 36-31 win over Orion. The United Red Storm girls had the night off last night and will play Galva at 7:30 in the high school gym.

It was championship night at the 34th annual Cranberry Classic at ROWVA High School in Oneida. The West Central Heat defeated the Abingdon-Avon Tornades 63-47 to end the week at (3-0), taking home the first place plaque. West Central broke open a close game with a 15-7 scoring advantage in the second period to take a 26-17 lead into the break. The Heat were led by 28 points by Carley Lafary and 22 from Mady Reed. A-Town got 16 points from Ashley Jones and 12 from Brook Piper. Also, ROWVA/Williamsfield beat West Prairie 61-25 in the 3rd place contest.

The Macomb Lady Bomber had another tough shooting night at their own Thanksgiving Tournament at Macomb High School. The Bombers drop to (0-2) after an 88-43 loss to Havana. Moline beat Pleasant Plains 65-58 in the first game of the night. The Tournament will have tonight off.

Junior High

The United Red Storm 7th grade girls basketball team won the Lincoln Trail Conference Tournament with a 29-19 win over Annawan. The Red Storm will head into regional play starting this weekend.

The West Central Heat junior high girls are finishing up their regular season schedule as well. The Heat traveled to West Prairie Junior High for a pair of games. The West Central 7th grade won 28-11 to end their regular season with a (9-10) record. They were led by Addie Seitz’s 14 points. The Heat 8th grade end the regular season with a record of (17-2) after beating West Prairie 38-31. West Central got 31 points from Shelby Bowman.
