Mary Elizabeth Standley, age 91, of Galesburg, Illinois, passed away peacefully at 9:56 P.M. on Wednesday, October 30, 2019 at the Heartland Healthcare Center in Galesburg.

 She was born on May 9, 1928 in Rio, Illinois, the daughter of Howard and Emma (Melton) Hall. She was reared and educated in the Knox County area, graduating from Galesburg High School. On October 2, 1948, Mary was married to Everette Eugene “Gene” Standley in Galesburg. Gene preceded her in death on March 13, 2007.

 Left to cherish Mary’s memory is her daughter, Susan Standley of Galesburg; two sons: Daniel Standley of Rock Island, Illinois, Ronald Standley of Galesburg; one sister, Virginia Rinehart of Galesburg; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and one sister, Lorece Arnett.

 Mary was a devoted member of the East Main Congregational Church of Galesburg. There were many past times she enjoyed, including filling out crosswords, reading romance novels, and watching Jeopardy and the Wheel of Fortune. She also greatly enjoyed keeping up on current events by reading the newspaper and watching the news. Mary was a wonderful cook, and she loved preparing dinners for her family and loved ones. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend who will be missed by all who knew her.

Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, November 5, 2019 at 1:30 P.M. at the Knoxville Cemetery in Knoxville, Illinois. Memorial contributions may be made to Knox County Humane Society. Online condolences and expressions of sympathy may be made through www.hurd-hendricksfuneralhome.com.
