Carl Sandburg College Sophomore Cora Neal, from Monmouth-Roseville High School, filled up the stat sheet for the Charger women’s basketball team, but Danville Area used a go-ahead run to start the fourth quarter to defeat the Chargers 55-49 on Thursday night at John M. Lewis Gymnasium. Sandburg (1-2) led 42-38 entering the final period, but the Jaguars (1-3) rattled off 12 unanswered points to take the lead for good. Neal scored a team-best 13 points, grabbed six rebounds, had four of Sandburg’s 15 steals on the night and also collected two assists. Former Macomb Bomber Sophie Whitford had eight points and eight rebounds before exiting in the fourth quarter with a knee injury. Up next for the Lady Chargers is a 1:00 game tomorrow afternoon at Madison Junior College in Madison, Wisconsin. It will be the first game of a men’s-women’s doubleheader. The Chargers men’s team faces the Wolfpack at 3 p.m.
