William (Bill) Frank Root, 96, of Monmouth, IL, died at 4:05 a.m., Wednesday, November 6, 2019, at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg, IL.

Bill was born on December 28, 1922, near Biggsville, IL, the son of William Charles and Arlena (Levine) Root. He married Patricia (Pat) Mau on February 1, 1964, in Davenport, IA, and had one daughter, Rebecca (Becki).  Bill attended schools in the Biggsville and Seaton IL area and graduated from Seaton High School in 1940.  He worked for a short time in Rock Island at International Harvester and then farmed for nearly 50 years in the Alexis area, retiring in 1992.

He was a long-standing member of First Lutheran Church in Monmouth where he served on many committees and was always active in the affairs of the Church.  Bill was a member of the Parkinson’s Foundation, the Warren-Henderson Farm Bureau, the Elks Club, and the American Legion.  He served in the United States Army Air Corps during the Occupation in Japan in 1945 and 1946.

Bill is survived by his wife, Pat; one daughter, Becki, and her husband, Ryan Kometer. Other surviving family members include his grandchildren, Christopher and Taylor Lanciloti and Jonathan Kometer; and one sister, Wilma (Root) Holland along with several nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Frances (Root) McClure and Doris Root.

Funeral Services will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 9, 2019, at the First Lutheran Church, Monmouth, IL.  Interment will be in Warren County Memorial Park, Monmouth, IL. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 p.m., Friday, November 8, 2019 at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, IL.  Memorials may be given to the First Lutheran Church of Monmouth or Monmouth Nursing Home.  For more information or to leave an online condolence please visit, www.mcguireanddaviesfuneralhome.com
