Remain Safe from Scams this Holiday Season

Share

Now that it is the holiday season, scams are likely to be more prevalent.

Package scams, which is ordering a gift online and never having it delivered, is common. Dorothy Ricketts, Vice President of Security Savings Bank says to be cautious when browsing a website, go to the direct website, and to not click on any links.

Any emails that look like they are from UPS or Amazon should also be avoided, and to go back to the receipt in order to track your package.

Ricketts gives more advice on what to do in case of a potential scam:

“Don’t panic, don’t get excited. And as I’ve said for years, if it’s something you don’t recognize, ask somebody. Take it to the bank, we can tell you, ‘okay, there’s a better way.’ If you think it might be legitimate, for example, the delivery problem, there’s a better way to address it than clicking on the link.”

Ricketts also says that IRS scams are in “full force”.
