The City of Galesburg would like to remind all contractors doing business in the City that they must be registered with the Galesburg City Clerk’s office by January 1 of each calendar year and apply for and receive the proper permits for any work being done.
This includes general contractors, roofers, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing contractors. Projects include, but are not limited to, siding, masonry, fencing, pool installations, and carpentry.
A homeowner can do general construction, electrical, plumbing and heating work on their own residence without licenses or bonds, providing they secure the appropriate permits and provide proof that they are the owner of the property. NOTE: Plumbing work requires that the owner occupy the residence for a minimum of six months after completion of any plumbing work.
All contractors and subcontractors must register with the City, including submitting a copy of current liability insurance and bonding, as well as paying the annual fee of $75 in order to perform work within the City of Galesburg.
