Local High School and Junior High Sports Update for Dec. 18, 2019

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan boys basketball team traveled to Hamilton High School last night for a non-conference match up with a West Central Conference North Division foe, West Hancock. TheTitans jumped out to a 7-2 lead early on and led 9-7 after the first eight minutes of play. West Hancock came back to take a 27-23 lead at the halftime break and then outscored the Titans 26-14 in the 3rd quarter and never looked back in a 70-52 win. West Hancock senior Drake Hammel came into the game averaging 28.5 points a game and looked like he might get that many in the 3rd quarter alone, scoring 20 points in the frame on his way to a game-high 37 points. Monmouth-Roseville is now (5-5) overall and were led by 13 points by Quincy Talivaa and twelve from Rashaun King.

In other high school boys basketball finals, the Knoxville Blue Bullets’ busy week got even busier last night. The Blue Bullets are in the middle of the United Holiday Christmas Tournament but scheduled a game on the off-night of the tourney. Knoxville beat Galva 64-49 to improve their overall record to (9-2). David Hise scored 22 and Jason Hise had 16 for the Blue Bullets, who continue play at United tonight.

The Knoxville/Abingdon-Avon Girls Basketball Holiday Tournament continued their pool play schedule last night. At Abingdon-Avon High School, the United Red Storm fell to Elmwood 33-20 and Farmington beat Ridgewood 66-37. At Knoxville, it was Illini Bluffs defeating ROWVA 50-24. With two games left in pool play, Farmington is the lone undefeated team in Pool A and the Knoxville varsity is without a loss in Pool B. Tonight’s schedule has Farmington playing United at 6:00 and A-Town matching up with Ridgewood at 7:30. At Knoxville High School, Illini Bluffs takes on the Knoxville JV at 6:00, followed by the Knoxville varsity battling West Central at 7:30.
