The Monmouth-Roseville Titan boys basketball team finished (2-2) and took 4th place last week in the Orion Tip-Off Classic. They ended the tourney with a close 55-52 loss to Abingdon-Avon on Saturday night. The Titans traveled to Aledo last night to try and get back in the win column against the Mercer County Golden Eagles, who went (0-4) last week in the same tournament. It was a homecoming for Monmouth-Roseville senior Rashaun King, who spent his first three years of high school at Mercer County and scored over 1,000 points as a Golden Eagle before transferring to Monmouth-Roseville towards the end of last school year. King contributed nine points for the Titans in an 81-40 road win. Quincy Talivaa led all scorers with 25 points for Monmouth-Roseville, who led the game 40-16 at the half. All twelve players in uniform scored for the Titans. Seth Crawley led Mercer County with 15 points. The Monmouth-Roseville JV beat Mercer County 42-28 in the first game of the night. Charlie Fletcher and Derek Chandler led Monmouth-Roseville with nine points apiece.
Elsewhere around high school boys basketball last night, Coltin Quagliano scored 28 points to lead Wethersfield to a 57-50 win over Sherrard. Orion beat Ridgewood 57-48 and it was Elmwood defeating West Prairie 48-42.
Junior High
8th grade girls basketball regionals continued last night with semi-final matchups. The Monmouth-Roseville Lady Titans defeated the Mercer County 33-19. Leading scorers for the Titans were Brianna Woodard with 8pts, Tatiana Talivaa and Ashya Bates with 6pts. The Titans will play for a class 3A Regional championship tomorrow night at 6pm at Rockridge Jr High vs Sherrard.
The West Central Heat beat North Fulton 30-28 in the class 2A regional at Lewistown. Shelby Bowman’s bucket at the buzzer was the winning score in that one. She led all scorers with 16 points. Addie Seitz chipped in with 13 as well for West Central, who will play the hosts, Lewistown at 6:00 tomorrow night for the regional title.
In junior high boys basketball, ICS played a road game at Galva. The Trojans swept the two games, winning the 7th grade game 42-27 and the 8th grade contest, 52-40. Andrew Way had 12 points to lead the Trojan 7th graders and Leo Mahoney had 21 for the ICS 8th grade.
The United Red Storm junior high boys also got a sweep last night, taking both games from West Prairie. Elliott Copeland had 11 points to lead the Red Storm 7th grade to a 28-24 victory, while Copeland and Hunter Hall each had seven points in a 27-17 win for the United 8th grade boys.
