Sharon Kay Ginther, 76, of Abingdon, died at 12:55 p.m. Thursday, December 26, 2019 with her family by her side.

Sharon was born January 23, 1943 in Monmouth, the daughter of George W.C. and Minnie Ellen (Brown) Poulson. She graduated from Abingdon High School. After high school Sharon married Larry Enos Ginther on July 8, 1961 at the Abingdon Christian Church, Abingdon. They enjoyed 52 years of marriage. Larry preceded Sharon in death on September 7, 2013. Their marriage brought four children; two sons, Rod (Nikki) Ginther of Cameron and Josh Ginther of Abingdon; and two daughters, Gwen (Todd) Van Velsor of Galesburg and Donna (Jim) Anderson of Altona. She is also survived by her nine loving grandchildren; Jaque (Matt) Gohlinghorst, Riley Van Velsor, Billy Youngren, Taylor Ginther, Jadyn Ginther, Emma Ginther, and Ava Ginther, Josh Ginther, Jr., and Bella Ginther; and two beautiful great grandsons, Clay and Jackson Gohlinghorst; one brother; and five sisters. Along with her husband and parents, Sharon was preceded in death by two brothers and six sisters.

Sharon worked at Maytag for over 33 years, retiring on August 1, 1999. Sharon’s greatest joys were spending time with her grandchildren and attending their sporting events and performances. She was a member of Abingdon Christian Church and will be long remembered for her annual Halloween party. Sharon enjoyed eating breakfast at Carolyn’s in Abingdon every morning.

Cremation rites will be accorded. Private family services will be held, and her cremated remains will be buried at Abingdon Cemetery, Abingdon, Chaplain Jordan Knight will officiate. Arrangements have been entrusted to Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. Memorials may be made in memory of Sharon to the Alpha-1 Foundation, www.alpha1.org.
