Sandburg Men Pull Away From Black Hawk for 3rd Straight Win

GALESBURG — The Carl Sandburg College men’s basketball team used a tiebreaking run midway through the second half to defeat Black Hawk 75-66 on Thursday night at John M. Lewis Gymnasium for its third straight Arrowhead Conference victory. Sandburg (17-6, 3-2) led 49-37 four minutes into the second half before the Braves (8-14, 1-4) put together a 16-0 run to tie the game. The Chargers answered right back with 10 of the next 12 points, starting with Noah Young (Colfax, Ill./Ridgeview) finding James Jones (Springfield, Ill./Lanphier) for a 3-pointer. Sandburg also got a pair of layups from Jean Luc Wilson (East Moline, Ill./United Township) and a corner trey from Carter Fayhee (Macomb, Ill./Macomb) during the stretch to go ahead 59-51. Black Hawk was within 61-58 with 5:00 left before Fayhee delivered a three-point play, and the Braves didn’t get within five points the rest of the way. Wilson led five Chargers in double figures as he scored 13 points while hitting 6 of 10 shots. He also had two assists and a block. Fayhee had 12 points and tied Young and Cody Baer (Dunlap, Ill./Dunlap) for the team lead with seven rebounds. Jones also scored a dozen and grabbed six boards. Baer scored 11 on 4-for-8 shooting.
