Monmouth scored early and often in Saturday’s 76-51 win over Lake Forest at Glennie Gym to pull within a game of first place in the Midwest Conference.

Carley Turnbull opened the game for the Scots burying a 3-pointer on her way to a game-high 20 points and Monmouth never looked back. The Scots raced out to a 20-6 first half advantage and led 31-20 at the intermission.

The Scots picked up where they left off in the third quarter, opening with a 14-5 run on their way to outscoring the Foresters 29-18 in the frame. Monmouth kept the heat on in the fourth quarter and never led by less than 16 points in the final 10 minutes as Becca Gallis sank both of her free throw attempts to set the program record for consecutive free throws at 30.

Turnbull was joined in double figures by Shayne Smith (14), Tarae Warner (12) and Jordan Kintigh (10).

Monmouth sits a game back of league-leader Ripon after the Red Hawks were upended Saturday afternoon at St. Norbert. The Scots next play at Ripon in a battle of the top two teams in the MWC next Friday at 7:30 p.m.
