Three M-R Students to Earn Foreign Language College Credit

Share

This past year the Monmouth-Roseville School district began participating in an Illinois State Board of Education program entitled Seal of Bi-literacy where students can show bi-literacy by passing a state test, public universities will accept that as two years of Foreign Language credit. Superintendent Ed Fletcher shares how the program got started:

“We all know we have a world that is not in isolation and you have to be able to communicate in many different ways. The initiative was started by our high school counselor Mrs. Schwartz and she worked with our Director of Multi Language Learners Mrs. Frytag and in November we had 60 high school students take the test. December 10th we had 10 in French and 50 in Spanish,” reports Fletcher.

Ramone Mendoza, Oscar Lopez-Sanchez, and Griselda Rico passed the exam and will receive two years of college Foreign Language credit.
