United School District Update

Improvements continue to be on the horizon for the United School District. Superintendent Jeff Whitsitt says the board will meet with their architect next month:

“We will start talking about going to bid. We will be accepting bids for a new roof at the Junior High and we have applied for some maintenance grants. Also, we are getting geared up to apply for the construction grant money that is coming out through the state that Governor Pritzker gear marked for the state,” reports Whitsitt.

Having four buildings in the United District, Whitsitt states it is important to remain ahead and up to date on improvements.

The District is in full interview mode to fill new positions and those that will be retiring at the end of 2021. Superintendent Whitsitt offers more details:

“We posted for all the teaching positions we are going to be in need of next year. We also posted a new position. We added Instructional Coaches at our Junior High and High School level last year and we posted to add that position at our Elementary level going into next year,” Whitsitt states.

At the end of the 2021 school year, high school Principal Amy Schmitz will be retiring after 16 years in the district. The board has elected to transfer Junior High Principal Chris Schwarz to fill Schmitz’s position and hire a new Principal at the Junior High.

Along with Schmitz, the high school Guidance Counselor Kay Shaver and Registrar Kim Long will be retiring as well.
