Sandburg Men’s Basketball Sharpshooter Gowan Voted 2nd-Team All-Region

Carl Sandburg College sophomore Scott Gowan (Rockford, Ill./Rockford East), one of the top 3-point shooters in the country, has been named to the All-Region IV Division II District 3 Second Team.

Gowan, a 6-foot-3 guard, was voted to the team by district coaches after leading the Chargers (21-9) in scoring during the regular season at 14.4 points per game. His 50 percent mark from 3-point range this season ranks third in all of NJCAA Division II.

Gowan leads the Chargers in scoring, total field goals (146), 3-pointers made (75), free throws (64) and free-throw percentage (82.1 percent). He also ranks second on the team in field goal percentage (52.5 percent) and is fourth among Chargers with 84 assists and 36 steals.

Gowan scored a career-high 37 points in the Chargers’ regular-season finale Tuesday at Black Hawk as he hit 14 of 24 shots from the floor, including 6 of 11 from 3-point range.

Gowan and Sandburg will begin postseason play by hosting Lake County at 7 p.m. Thursday in the quarterfinals of the Region IV Division II District 4 Tournament.

Second Team — Justin Briley (sophomore, Milwaukee Area Tech), Malcolm Bell (sophomore, South Suburban), Scott Gowan (sophomore, Carl Sandburg), Leon Williams (freshman, Wright), Steven Ross Jr. (sophomore, Milwaukee Area Tech).
