Jeff Knapp scored Monmouth’s first goal in the first minute as the Scots never lost momentum and rolled by the Clarke University Pride 15-2 Tuesday afternoon, opening the season with three straight wins.

Chase Cranford added the next two scores less than two minutes apart and netted a hat trick by the end of the first period to give the Scots an 8-0 lead. Cranford added another score in Monmouth’s four-goal third quarter to finish with four scores in the game.

The Scots tacked on two more tallies in the second period when Mitch Perez punched one in just 36 seconds into the frame on his way to a three-goal day. Thomas Van Alstine joined the hat trick party, slipping in a pair of first quarter goals and adding his third as the first half came to a close with Monmouth holding a commanding 10-1 lead. The Scots went on to outshoot the Pride 59-24. Monmouth got a near-perfect performance from freshman faceoff man Gordon Kiesgen who won 18 of the game’s 19 faceoffs.

Monmouth returns home to host Wabash College on Saturday with a 2 p.m. faceoff.
