Carley Turnbull scored the 1,000th point of her career as Monmouth maintained a share of the Midwest Conference lead with Saturday’s 76-68 win over Grinnell.

After a back-and-forth first quarter, the Scots roared to a 21-8 second quarter scoring advantage and never trailed the rest of the way. The Pioneers did rally in the second half, fighting back from a 45-27 hole early in the third period. A 14-0 run cut the margin to 45-41 with 2:46 left in the frame before Monmouth could stop the bleeding on two Turnbull free throws. A pair of Becca Gallis buckets – one a 3-pointer – regained a double figure lead for Monmouth at 55-43. Turnbull’s next bucket at the :10 mark pushed Monmouth’s lead to a dozen at 57-45 as she broke the 1,000-point mark.

Monmouth maintained a double digit lead for most of the fourth quarter, holding Grinnell to 11 points over the final five minutes.

Turnbull led the Scots with a 20-point afternoon while Becca Gallis added 18, Kaitlyn Osmulski 16 and Josie Morgan 10.

The Scots travel to Knox Wednesday for a 7:30 contest before hosting Ripon – tied with the Scots for the MWC lead at 12-2 – Saturday at 3 p.m.
