Catherine Ann (Patton) Stinson. It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Catherine Ann Stinson (nee Patton) of Knoxville on March 1, 2020 at the age of 91 years.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children Linda (Jim) Malec, Paula (Mike) Homan, and Roger (Teri) Stinson; grandchildren Christopher (Sara) Malec, Nicholas Malec, Jeremy Stinson, Joshua (Stephanie) Stinson, Michelle (Eric) Stephens, Eric Stinson, Kristianne (Christopher) Royal, Stephanie DeAngelis, Jennie DeAngelis and Kimberley DeAngelis; 13 great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren, as well as niece Julie (Rick) Kapsch and their children Elizabeth and Joseph.
She was predeceased by her steadfast and loving husband of 55 years, William Elvie Stinson; infant daughter, Ruth Ann; brothers, Paul Patton and infant Robert Patton; sisters, Dorothy Patton and Ruth Patton Brown; and her parents, Samuel and Agnes Patton; and numerous other family members and friends.
Catherine and her family had strong connections to Grace Lutheran Church, since her grandfather, Frank Mattson led the committee to construct the current church building. Her children delighted in knowing her father Sam rang the church bell for call to worship. She attended regularly, enjoyed fellowship and participated in Sarah Circle. Catherine loved to paint and learned china painting, creating beautiful decorative plates and pieces. When her daughters were young, she made clothing for them, often sewing matching outfits. She and husband Bill were avid walkers, making almost daily treks the length of town, greeting friends and neighbors as they went. She kept dear friends throughout her life and enjoyed playing cards, visiting over a meal and playing the nickel slots at nearby casinos. She loved to tend her lawn and flower beds, and chose board and batten siding for her home, based on a historic image of an ancestor’s house in Sweden. Catherine had a keen sense of humor and always had a witty retort, to the end.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 -7:00 pm on Friday, March 6, 2020 followed by a Funeral Service at 1:00 pm, on Saturday, March 7, 2020 at Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes and Crematory, Knoxville.
