Herschel L. “Montey” Hogan, 79, of Galesburg, died peacefully at home with his wife and family by his side at 8:45 p.m. Monday, March 2, 2020.
Montey was born November 27, 1940 in Galesburg, the son of Herschel L. Hogan and Betty Jane Campbell-Blixt. Montey graduated from Galesburg High School. He worked as a brakeman for Burlington Northern Railroad for 29 years, retiring in 1987.
Montey married Christine Marie Carr on July 7, 1986 in Galesburg. She survives; as do two daughters, Tammy Harmon and Pam (Tim) Way both of Abingdon; and one son, Troy (Sara) Carr of Galesburg. Montey is also survived by his six beloved grandchildren, one granddaughter, Kiley (Jerrad “Boo”) Quinn of Abingdon; five grandsons, Travis Thomas of Abingdon, Zach (Evie) Thomas of Knoxville, Trevor Way of Texas, Sam and Max Carr both of Galesburg; and five great grandchildren, Kennedy Quinn of Abingdon, Branson Thomas of Abingdon, Emery Thomas of Knoxville, Graham Quinn of Abingdon, and Anna Thomas of Knoxville.
Montey was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was an avid sportsman. He was very competitive and enjoyed fast cars, motorcycles, and boats.
Cremation will be accorded. No services are planned. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made in Montey’s memory to Beacon of Hope Hospice, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or the charity of the donor’s choosing.
