Gertrude E. “Gert” Pheiffer, 89, of Monmouth, IL, passed away at 11:45 p.m., Sunday, May 10, 2020 at the Courtyard Estates of Kewanee, IL.  

She was born April 5, 1931 in Mercer County, IL, the daughter of Marion and Frances (Peterson) McMeekan. She was raised and educated in the New Windsor area and graduated from New Windsor High School.  

Gert married William D. Pheiffer on November 20, 1947 in Monmouth, IL and he passed away on March 10, 2004.  

She worked on the family farm and was also employed as a bookkeeper. She spent most of her life growing over 2500 hybrid daylily varieties and selling them across the country. 

Gert enjoyed growing her flowers and spending time with her family.  

Survivors include her sons; Don (Terry) Pheiffer and Barry Pheiffer both of Wyoming, IL. 9 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive. 

She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, William G. Pheiffer and her daughter in law, Cindy Pheiffer. 

Cremation rites have been accorded. Private graveside services will be held at the Alexis Cemetery at a later date.  Memorials may be made to Shriners Children’s Hospital or the givers preferred charity.  McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, IL is in charge of the arrangements.  For more information or to leave an online condolence please visit, www.mcguireanddaviesfuneralhome.com.
